Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 9, 2018) - The No. 15 Salt Lake Community College softball program has overcome adversity before.
That experience in overcoming adversity came into play with the Bruins, as they trailed in-state rival Snow College in the opening round of the Region 18 softball tournament in Twin Falls, Idaho. SLCC trailed Snow early in the game but came back to enjoy a 5-3 victory to advance to a second-round matchup with the College of Southern Idaho Thursday.
An early home run by Snow College gave the Badgers a 3-0 lead after the top of the third inning, creating a sense of urgency for Salt Lake. The Bruins utilized that urgency in the bottom of the inning, with SLCC's
Ashlee Snyder hitting a two-run home run to get Salt Lake on the board. An RBI single for
Laina SueSue lifted SLCC into a 3-3 tie at the inning's end.
Salt Lake put together another scoring rally in the fifth inning, with Snyder hitting a leadoff double in the inning to set the table for
Breah Ava. Ava responded by hitting a two-run home run, giving the Bruins a 5-3 lead.Â
Harley Wells started the game in the circle for Salt Lake, after being named an All-Region 18 pitcher.Â
The Bruins and top-seed Southern Idaho will play a game at 2:30 on Thursday in the winner's bracket. The loser will play an elimination game on Friday at 11:00 a.m., with the winner advancing to the region championship game at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.Â
