No. 15 Salt Lake enters Region 18 tourney Thursday

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 8, 2018) - The No. 15 Salt Lake Community College Bruins understand what it takes to stand atop Region 18 in softball.

After all, the Bruins have experienced a stunning display of excellence in softball, annually leading the Scenic West Athletic Conference while establishing the program as one of the nation's elite. Salt Lake finished the regular season with a record of 39-12 and 33-7 in the league, with the Bruins finishing second in the league behind the College of Southern Idaho.

The runner-up finish means that Salt Lake will be traveling for the Region 18 tournament this week, a tournament that begins on Wednesday in Twin Falls, Idaho. The Bruins will play the winner of a matchup between in-state rival Snow College and Colorado Northwestern. The tournament operates as a true double-elimination tourney, with the championship games being played on Friday.

Salt Lake swept both Snow College and Colorado Northwestern during the regular season. Salt Lake earned run-rule victories in five games against Snow in the regular season, and earned run-rule victories over Colorado Northwestern in each of their eight matchups. The Bruins outscored the Spartans by a total of 123-2 during the season.

If Salt Lake wins, they will likely play host Southern Idaho in a game at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Salt Lake's first-round game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
