Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 3, 2018) - The No. 15 Salt Lake Community College softball program is trying to peak right before next week's Region 18 tournament.
If Thursday was any indication, the Bruins might not be far off. Salt Lake earned two run-rule victories, beating Colorado Northwestern Community College, 8-0 and 15-0. The wins improve Salt Lake's record in the Scenic West Athletic Conference to 31-7, putting them a half-game ahead of the College of Southern Idaho for next week's top seed in the Region 18 tourney.
Salt Lake will host Colorado Northwestern for a league doubleheader Friday, with the games also including the program's annual "Sophomore Day" festivities. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Norma Carr Field.Â

Kiara Grover threw a perfect game in the circle in five innings, striking out two batters. Grover's season record is now 10-2.Â
Salt Lake hit three home runs in the game, with SLCC designated hitter
Breah Ava hitting two home runs in the game. Salt Lake took a 2-0 lead after the second inning, thanks to a
Ashlee Anderson RBI single, and eventually extended the lead to 4-0 in the third inning after a
Dayna Hokanson RBI single. Ava hit a solo home run in the third inning and two-run home run in the fourth inning.
Laina SueSue hit a solo home run also in the fourth inning.
Ava finished with three RBI's, with SLCC all-time leader
Ashlee Snyder adding another RBI to her career total. Salt Lake finished with nine hits in the game.
Salt Lake 15, Colorado Northwestern 0: A ten-run second inning helped lifted Salt Lake to its sixth consecutive run-rule victory over Colorado Northwestern.
Leading 1-0 in the second inning, SLCC errupted for 10 runs, keyed by a
Natalie Sumsion three-run home run. Later in Salt Lake's five-run third inning,
Kim Taylor hit a three-run home run to lift the Bruins to a 14-0 lead. SLCC had 15 hits in the game, with seven hits being extra-base hits (five doubles, two home runs).Â
Taylor, Sumsion and
Mary Fredrickson each finished with three RBI's in the game, while ten different Bruins finished with hits in the game.
Salt Lake's
Summer Stensgard earned the victory in the circle, throwing a complete game while surrendering just three hits. Stensgard struck out seven CNCC batters during the game.
