No. 4 SLCC prepares for critical road series at Southern Idaho

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 3, 2018) - The No. 45 Salt Lake Community College softball program is currently rolling through the Scenic West Athletic Conference.

The league-leading Bruins are on a league-high 16-game winning streak, having outscored opponents 141-9 over the last nine games. Salt Lake is coming off a series sweep of Colorado Northwestern, a series that saw each game end with run-rule victories. Salt Lake's last loss came over a month ago, on March 3 against the very opponent the Bruins will face this weekend, the College of Southern Idaho.

Salt Lake is up to No. 4 in the latest NJCAA poll, thanks in large part to the rankings. The Bruins are behind No. 3 Tyler, No. 2 Florida SouthWestern State and No. 1 Chipola, who is undefeated at 40-0.

The Golden Eagles are boasting a 15-game winning streak, sitting a game behind Salt Lake at 17-3 in the league standings. Southern Idaho split a series with Salt Lake to open the league schedule, as the Bruins took the first two games and CSI took the last two. Now, with the league's top spot hanging in the balance, the two SWAC titans will battle in Twin Falls. Southern Idaho is ranked eighth in the latest NJCAA poll.

This weekend's series should be a top-rate competitive experience as both teams are at-or-near the top in virtually every major statistical category in the league. Salt Lake leads the league in batting average (.408), while Southern Idaho sits in second (.398); the Golden Eagles hold the league's best pitching staff (3.17 ERA) with Salt Lake holding the second-best pitching staff (4.09 ERA).

Salt Lake's Ashlee Snyder continues to lead the league in several offensive categories, currently holding the lead in home runs (12) and runs-batted-in (56). The Bruin infielder is now the career home run leader in Taylorsville, thanks to hitting a series of blasts against CNCC that featured a grand slam to set the program record.

The road series against Southern Idaho will begin Thursday at 1:00 p.m., with a doubleheader Friday scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
