Bruins sweep Southern Nevada in Friday doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 27, 2018) - A warm, sunny Friday on the Wasatch Front was just what the doctor ordered for the Salt Lake Community College softball program.

The Bruins improved their standings in the Scenic West Athletic Conference, had numerous individual records set, and accomplished all of that while earning 10-2 and 8-0 run-rule victories over the College of Southern Nevada. The wins improve Salt Lake's overall record to 33-12 overall and 27-7 in SWAC play.

Salt Lake and Southern Nevada will conclude the four-game series on Saturday, with another doubleheader scheduled at Norma Carr Field. Game one is scheduled for a start time of 12:00 p.m.

Salt Lake 10, Southern Nevada 2: Game one was a run-rule victory for Salt Lake, with the contest featuring several record-setting performances for the Bruins.

SLCC's Lauren Tycksen set the program record for steals in a season, swiping her 44th base after stealing second in the bottom of the fourth inning. Another season and career record was added to, as Ashlee Snyder hit two home runs to move 27 homers on the season. Snyder is also the program's all-time leader in runs-batted-in after hitting a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning. The sophomore slugger hit a three-run home run in the third inning.

Breah Ava added another highlight for Salt Lake as she and Snyder went back-to-back in the fourth inning, stretching the lead to give Salt Lake the run-rule victory. The game's final play came on a Mary Fredrickson sacrifice-fly RBI, scoring Dayna Hokanson to end the contest.

Kiara Grover earned the pitching win for Salt Lake, throwing a complete game in the circle. 

Salt Lake 8, Southern Nevada 0: Salt Lake earned another run-rule victory over Southern Nevada, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to earn the ultimate tally.

SLCC's offense provided 12 hits as the Bruins won their fifth-consecutive game. Salt Lake opened the scoring with a Laina SueSue home run in the second inning, which was followed by a Kyrna Nelson RBI double and a Lauren Tycksen RBI single to give the Bruins an early 3-0 lead. Sara Bendt had an RBI single in the third inning, with Ashlee Snyder's RBI single in the fourth inning scoring two runs.

Harley Wells picked up another victory to move to 16-3 in the circle for Salt Lake. Wells surrendered four hits in five innings of work, striking out three Coyotes in the complete-game victory.
