Take Salt Lake Community College softball player
Ashlee Snyder; Snyder entered the season as a preseason All-America player, returning as one of the Scenic West Athletic Conference's top players. Not content to rest simply on those accolades, Snyder has terrorized pitchers all across the NJCAA this season, hitting 25 home runs on the year entering Saturday's scheduled league doubleheader at in-state rival Snow College.
While she didn't add to her home run total Saturday, Snyder continued her strong hitting season, driving in multiple runs in each game of the doubleheader as Salt Lake swept Snow, 11-1 and 10-1.
With only two weekends left in the SWAC's regular season, the Bruins will host Southern Nevada in a four-game series next weekend at Norma Carr Field. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
Salt Lake 11, Snow College 1: A
Lauren Tycksen basehit led things off for the Bruins, with Salt Lake earning the victory over Snow in a run-rule contest.
Tycksen hit a leadoff single, setting the table for sophomore
Ashlee Snyder. Snyder hit a standup double, scoring two runs on the hit as Salt Lake eventually would take a 5-0 lead after the first inning.
Breah Ava also hit a two-run home run in the inning to assist Salt Lake.
Snyder would hit another standup double in the second inning, scoring two more runs as SLCC boosted its lead to 8-0.
Kim Taylor's double to left-center in the third inning added another run to Salt Lake's final tally.
Bruins pitcher
Summer Stensgard threw a complete game, allowing just one run in the contest. Stensgard threw three strikeouts in the game.Â
Salt Lake 10, Snow College 1: SLCC picked up a big victory, thanks to another run-rule victory.Â
Lauren Tycksen hit a three-RBI triple in the second inning to give Salt Lake a 3-0 lead, with Snyder eventually hitting an RBI single to take a 5-0 lead. Tycksen would eventually get a single in the fourth inning, stealing her way home.
Taylor Sorenson hit a two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning, give the Bruins the lead they needed to earn the run rule victory.Â
