Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 15, 2018) - The Salt Lake Community College Bruin softball program had one of its tougher days of the season Sunday, being swept in a doubleheader by in-state rival USU Eastern.
The Bruins lost heartbreaking games to the Eagles, falling in game one, 3-0, and game two, 9-8. Salt Lake finished with a split in the series. The losses drop Salt Lake to 21-5 in league standings, sitting at three games behind Scenic West Athletic Conference-leader Southern Idaho.
SLCC will play a doubleheader with another in-state rival starting Friday, as the Bruins travel to play the visiting Snow College Badgers in a four-game series.
USU Eastern 3, Salt Lake 0: A back-and-forth pitching duel ending with the Eagles posting three runs in the final frame to earn the victory.
A two-RBI single by USU Eastern's Carlye Levy helped to break a scoreless duel in the seventh inning, with another run eventually scoring on a SLCC error. Salt Lake mustered just four hits in the game, with no player earning more than a single hit.

Summer Stensgard earned the loss for the Bruins, throwing seven innings and allowing a single earned run.
USU Eastern 9, Salt Lake 8: USU Eastern opened with a big offensive run, hanging on to survive a late SLCCÂ rally.
The Eagles opened with a 6-0 lead after the top of the fifth inning, with Salt Lake finally putting a pair of runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Rian Rawlings had an RBI single to get the Bruins on the board, with
Summer Stensgard hitting another RBI single in the inning.Â

Ashlee Snyder and
Breah Ava helped to cut the deficit to 7-4. However, a USU Eastern home run in the seventh inning put the game out of reach, in spite of Salt Lake scoring four runs in the bottom half of the inning.
USU Eastern posted 14 hits in the game, while Salt Lake posted just 8 hits.
