Salt Lake sweeps USU Eastern in SWAC doubleheader Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 14, 2018) - After spending several weeks on the road, finishing an extended trip with a tough series at Southern Idaho, the Salt Lake Community College Bruin softball program was excited to return home.

While weather forced the delay of some games, the Bruins took advantage of the familiarity of home at Norma Carr Field, earning a doubleheader sweep of in-state rival USU Eastern Saturday. SLCC earned a 7-1 victory over the Eagles in game one, returning with a () victory over USU Eastern in game two.

Salt Lake will host USU Eastern in a rare Sunday doubleheader, with the first game at Norma Carr Field starting at 12:00 p.m. 

Salt Lake 7, USU Eastern 1: A parade of home runs lifted the Bruins to a victory in game one.

Breah Ava hit a solo home run in the first inning, giving SLCC a 2-0 lead. Dayna Hokanson added to the advantage in the second inning as she hit a two-run home run to give Salt Lake a 4-0 lead, with SWAC-leader Ashlee Snyder hit a solo home run in the fourth.

Salt Lake was also able to take advantage of multiple USU Eastern miscues, with Lauren Tycksen scoring on a error in the first inning. Laina SueSue scored on a passed ball later in the third inning.

Hokanson finished the game going 2-of-3. Kiara Grover threw a complete victory for Salt Lake, sprinkling just four hits and one run over seven innings of work. 

Salt Lake 12, USU Eastern 4: The Bruins utilized the long ball to their advantage, earning the sweep over USU Eastern.

Laina SueSue hit a solo home run in the second inning to give Salt Lake an early 1-0 lead. However, SLCC's Ashlee Snyder had another career day, hitting two home runs to move to 22 homers this season. Snyder hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to give Salt Lake a 6-4 lead, with her solo home run in the sixth inning give the Bruins a 9-4 lead.

Dayna Hokanson was 3-of-4 in the game, as was Suesue. Snyder finished the game with 4 RBI's to lead SLCC. Her mark sets the Salt Lake season record for home runs.
