Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 9, 2018) - Sitting at 2-2 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play, the No. 13 Salt Lake Community College softball program had plans on busting out of an inconsistent start to league play.
The plan seemed to work to perfection Friday as the Bruins swept in-state foe USU Eastern, earning a doubleheader sweep with game victories of 12-1 and 8-0 to start a road series in Price. Salt Lake had its second-highest scoring output of the season in the win, controlling in the win.
Salt Lake and USU Eastern will play two more games Saturday. The Bruins will host a pair of home series over the next two weekends as SLCC welcomes Snow College and the College of Southern Nevada. The Snow College series will start on Mar. 16, with doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
Salt Lake 8, USU Eastern 0: With Kiara Glover starting, the Bruins quickly and efficiently cut down any changes for an Eagles victory.
Glover finished with the win after pitching seven solid innings, scattering eight hits over the course of the game. The Idaho native threw a first pitch for a strike 15-of-29 batters.
SLCC's offense powered early and often, with the Bruins taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning after a solo home run by
Laina SueSue. Salt Lake scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning, with a
Mary Fredrickson triple clearing the bases for three runs.Â
The Bruins had 13 hits in the win.Â
Salt Lake 12, USU Eastern 1: Second game, same results for Salt Lake as the Bruins combined strong offense with elite pitching.
Harley Wells struck out two as she pitched Salt Lake to the win in five innings. Two Bruins hit home runs (
Summer Stensgard and
Ashlee Snyder) as SLCC led 7-0 after the second inning. The Bruins scored five runs in the seventh inning.
