TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 29, 2018) - The Salt Lake Community College Bruin softball program has seen its fortunes turn dramatically over the last month.
Up to seventh in the latest NJCAA national poll, the Bruins are on a 12-game winning streak as they enter a four-game road series with Colorado Northwestern Community College this weekend. Salt Lake is a league-high 14-2 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play, setting up a situation where the Bruins are back up to being among the hunted nationally.
After sweeping both the SWAC Player-of-the-Week and Pitcher-of-the-Week awards, SLCC will attempt to push its league record to 18-2 against the Spartans, who haven't won a game in the 2018 season. Colorado Northwestern is 0-28 on the season and 0-15 in league standings. CNCC is last in the league standings with a batting average of .267, compared to Salt Lake's .389.
Salt Lake currently leads the Scenic West in batting, is second in pitching (4.46 ERA) and leads the league in fielding (.941). The Bruins also have some of the league's top offensive players like
Ashlee Snyder and
Lauren Tycksen, who leads the SWAC with 24 stolen bases.
Friday's games at Colorado Northwestern will begin at 1:00 p.m., while Saturday's games will start at 12:00 p.m. The Bruins are scheduled to play their next home games on April 13 against USU Eastern.Â
