Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 10, 2018) - A pair of strong offensive performances on Saturday lifted the No. 13 Salt Lake Community College softball program to a doubleheader sweep.
The Bruins earned a 12-10 and 16-8 victory over in-state foe USU Eastern, sweeping both the doubleheader and the series against the Eagles. Salt Lake also had its highest-scoring performance of the season in game two. SLCC's Scenic West Athletic Conference record is now 6-2.Â
Salt Lake will play its next SWAC series starting Friday, Mar. 16 against Snow College. The Bruins will play a four-game series against the Badgers, playing their first games of the season at Norma Carr Field.
Salt Lake 12, USU Eastern 10: A topsy-turvy game that started with a USU Eastern offensive explosion ended with a dramatic Bruins victory.
After USU Eastern took a 4-0 in the second inning, Salt Lake responded with a two-run home run to work back into the game. The score would go back-and-forth before a
Lauren Tycksen liner down the line scored two more for SLCC.
Sara Bendt's two-run home run in the sixth brought Salt Lake within two, 10-8, before Ashley Beardsley brought the Bruins within one run in the next inning.
Paige Reynolds would eventually lay down a bunt to score a runner, tying the game at 10-10.
Heading into the seventh inning,
Ashlee Snyder hit a solo home run to give the Bruins their first lead, which eventually stretched to 12-10. After a three-up, three-down performance by SLCC's pitching, the Bruins earned the win.Â
Salt Lake 16, USU Eastern 8: The Bruins powered to a run-rule victory, with the long ball powering SLCC to the game victory.
SLCCÂ trailed 3-0 after the first inning, with Salt Lake earning two runs in the second inning on a
Harley Wells home run. USU Eastern would stretch their lead to 6-2 after the second inning but Salt Lake responded with a massive rally in the top of the third, with
Summer Stensgard lifting a three-run shot to left field. Stensgard hit another home run in the fourth inning.
Salt Lake earned the win after the bottom of the fifth inning.Â
