Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 8, 2018) - The No. 2 Salt Lake Community College Bruins had their schedule unexpectedly rearrange Thursday.
The Bruins, who were expecting a doubleheader against Chipola College, instead faced Chipola and Wallace State in the FPU Classic. The schedule adjustment was made with weather in mind, as Salt Lake is playing a nationally-competitive preseason tournament in the southeastern United States.
With all of the adversity of the change in mind, the Bruins split their doubleheader, falling 1-0 to Chipola before climbing to a 6-3 victory over Wallace State. The day moves Salt Lake's season record to 3-4.
The Bruins fell to Chipola as the Indians scored their lone run in the first inning. In spite of repeated opportunities, SLCC was unable to convert in the loss.
Game two proved to be more of Salt Lake's style as the Bruins' offense powered them to their first win since a 15-4 win over Central Arizona on January 27. An Ashley Snyder sacrifice-fly RBI powered the Bruins to a 1-0 lead after the first inning, followed by
Laina SueSue's three-run home run in the fourth inning. While Wallace State would score three runs in the bottom of the sixth, Salt Lake's
Kierstyn Ketchell downed the side to end the game.
Salt Lake will play three games Friday, with scheduled games against Indian River, Central Florida and Gordon.Â
