No. 2 Salt Lake prepares for East Coast tourneys

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 8, 2018) - The No. 2 Salt Lake Community College Bruins are headed east for yet another preseason softball tournament this week.

After playing on the West Coast to open the season, the Bruins are heading to the southeast United States for games against some of the nation's elite NJCAA programs. Salt Lake will play a doubleheader Thursday against Chipola College, followed by an appearance in the nationally-recognized Dothan Tournament.

The Bruins will open their stay with the Chipola doubleheader on Thursday. Chipola won the 2015 NJCAA title and is currently ranked fifth in the NJCAA polls. Their roster annually produces some of the nation's top junior college talent, with one pitcher already committed to play for the University of Alabama after this season.

Friday and Saturday will see Salt Lake face off against more national powers in the Dothan Invitational in Dothan, Ala. The Bruins will play third-ranked Florida Southwestern and No. 9 Lake Land early Friday, followed by a later game against No. 16 Central Florida. The Bruins will conclude the tournament Saturday with a game against No. 20 Indian River.

Salt Lake will play its Scenic West Athletic Conference opener on Friday, March 2 with a weekend series against the College of Southern Idaho. The weekend series will also be the first home games of the year at Norma Carr Field.
