Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 24, 2018) - For all of the moments the Salt Lake Community College Bruins had throughout the 2017-18 season, this one seemed to be one of the more challenging.
Sure, the Bruins were expected to be a strong contender in the Scenic West Athletic Conference; sure, Salt Lake was expected to be nationally-ranked and in contention for a berth in the NJCAA national tournament. What wasn't expected was how SLCC went about its regular season, rolling to a mark of 27-3 and 10-2 in the SWAC - a record that gave Salt Lake Community College a share of league title and the league's top seed in next week's Region 18 tournament.
The Bruins were able to achieve that goal with a commanding win over Colorado Northwestern Community College Saturday, an 83-67 contest that saw the Bruins move to 3-0 on the season over CNCC. Salt Lake led at halftime, 37-26, and never looked back from there.
SLCC's defense and rebounding once again told the story of the game, with the Bruins holding a 44-34 rebounding edge. Salt Lake also limited CNCC to just 39.3 percent shooting (24-of-61). SLCC's lead was as large as 29 (65-26) with 9:40 left in the second half.
Josh Colon led the Bruins in scoring, finishing with 17 points.
Bushmen Ebet had 15 points, while
Alec Monson and
Matt Lindsey had 13 points apiece.
The Bruins will play in the Region 18 championship this upcoming weekend at Snow College in Ephraim. Turn to www.slccbruins.com for more information on bracketing and matchups for SLCC in the tourney.Â
