TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 13, 2018) - After a weekend away, the No. 8 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team is returning home for a trio of games.
The Bruins will play a game at home on Tuesday against Western Wyoming Community College, while also preparing for the 'Bruin Classic' tourney that will be hosted at the Lifetime Activities Center this weekend. SLCC will play against Saddleback College and Umpqua College in this weekend's tourney, with Scenic West Athletic Conference foe Snow College also participating.
After a win over a nationally-ranked opponent on Saturday, the Bruins are excited at the opportunities that lie ahead of them this week, Bruins coach
Todd Phillips said.
"We're excited to be at home this week for three games," he said. "We're coming off a big win at No. 14 Western Nebraska, where our defense led the way and helped us dominate the game. When we focus on the defensive end, our offense is better."
Salt Lake earned a 108-78 victory in the game over WNCC, showcasing a variety of different scoring threats. Some of SLCC's early presences include point guard Cam Mack and guard
Daron Henson, with Mack already earning recruiting attention from around the country. Those talents will make a difference as Salt Lake hosts a 3-0 Saddleback team and an Umpqua team that is 1-0, after a 128-81 victory over Multnomah.
Phillips said the challenge of the weekend will be a good early-season barometer for his program.
"It should be a really excited week of basketball," he said. "We have one of the top junior college programs in California, along with a really good NWAC team. This weekend will be a great test for us."
Tuesday's game against Western Wyoming is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start, while Friday's game against Saddleback will start at 6:00 p.m. SLCC will play at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday against Umpqua.Â
