No. 8 SLCC Men's Basketball downs No. 14 Western Nebraska

Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 10, 2018) - The No. 8 Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team is consistently looking for opportunities to prove themselves in competitive situations.

The Bruins proved themselves very well in a competitive situation Saturday, downing No. 14 Western Nebraska in a Region 9/18 Challenge game in Scottsbluff, Neb. SLCC earned a 108-78 victory over WNCC, using a strong offensive performance in the first half to roll to the victory. The victory moves Salt Lake's record to 2-1. 

Bruins coach Todd Phillips said he was encouraged by the final result.

"We came to play tonight," he said. "We shut down one of the best offenses in the country tonight on their home court. Our guys really dialed in and guarded. I'm really proud of their focus."

Salt Lake led 61-28 at halftime, shooting 51.3 percent from the field and 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from three-point range. The Bruins would shoot 50 percent from the field in the game, mixed with a defensive performance that limited WNCC to just 37.1 percent shooting in the game.

Josh Colon led the Bruins with 25 points, mixed with Daron Henson's 23 points. Cameron Mack contributed 15 points, while Aaron Burt also had 12 points to finish in double-figures.

SLCC will return home to play against Western Wyoming on Tuesday, before hosting tournaments the next two weekends in Salt Lake.
