No. 10 Bruins move on to Region 18 finals, beat Southern Nevada in shootout

Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 26, 2018) - The No. 10 Salt Lake Community College women's soccer team will play for the Region 18 championship, thanks to a thrilling shootout victory over Southern Nevada in Friday's semifinals.

Hosting the Region 18 championships for the first time, the Scenic West Athletic Conference regular-season champions knew they would be in for a significant challenge hosting longtime SWAC contender Southern Nevada. Salt Lake responded by finding a way to grind out a 1-1 victory, finishing with a 4-3 edge in a penalty shootout to advance to the Region 18 championship match Saturday against in-state rival Snow College.

Samantha Tippetfs gave SLCC an early 1-0 lead, with the Bruins hoping to utilize the strong defense that served them so well throughout the season. Instead, CSN came back with a goal late in the second period, setting up extra time. After scoreless overtime periods, a penalty shootout decided the semifinal. With opportunity lurking, the Bruins earned a 4-3 final edge to head to Saturday's championship match.

Salt Lake and in-state rival Snow College will play at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman. The winner of Saturday's match will advance to next week's NJCAA District One championships in Arizona. Updated brackets can be found on scenicwestsports.com.
