TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 16, 2018) - With the way the Salt Lake Community College Bruins have been grinding over the first few weeks of Scenic West play, it will be nice to have a single-game week.
The Bruins have played only one home game in three opportunities, having to travel twice to play in-state rivals with something to prove. In spite of all of the adversity, the Bruins have found a way to power to three consecutive league victories, including a blowout win over nationally-ranked College of Southern Idaho. Even with all of that success, Salt Lake is still trying to find its best possible self - a search that will continue into Thursday's SWAC home game against Colorado Northwestern.
Back to the early-season successes, SLCC coach
Todd Phillips said the 20-1 overall record for the Bruins is an example of their dedication to continued improvement.
The opponent the Bruins will meet Thursday inside Bruin Arena will not carry the same amount of prestige or nationally-acclaim as opponents they've previously faced this season, but Colorado Northwestern is still a league opponent, leaving plenty of reasons for Salt Lake to take note. The Spartans are 7-11 on the season and 0-2 in Scenic West play, with losses to USU Eastern and Southern Idaho to their credit. They play a back-to-back of SLCC and Snow College, starting in Taylorsville Thursday.
Colorado Northwestern is last in the league in scoring offense, averaging just 81.9 points-per-game. However, its scoring defense leads the league at 59 points a game to opponents, something that gives the Bruins reason for concern.Â
Phillips said the Spartans present several issues the Bruins will need to be aware of.
Thursday's game will tip off at 7:30 p.m. inside Bruins Arena, with live stats on www.slccbruins.com and live streaming on live.ksl.com. Salt Lake will only play a single game next weekend as well, as they travel to Price on Jan. 27 to face USU Eastern for the second time this season.Â
