Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 25, 2017) - Saturday's Salt Lake Community College came a month from Christmas but the Bruins appear to be celebrating the festivity of the season early in 2017-18.
Salt Lake earned a 94-71 win over the Utah Blaze, controlling the tempo of the game from start-to-finish to move to 10-0 to open the season. The victory also helped the Bruins move to 2-0 in the SLCC Thanksgiving Tournament.
The Bruins held a 58-29 halftime lead, overcoming an up-and-down start that saw the Blaze led 15-13 with 15:14 left in the first half. Salt Lake shot 56.5 percent from the field, combining a solid offensive performance with an even-better defensive performance (limiting Utah to 36.1 percent shooting). SLCC was also efficient with 27 assists.
Hunter Schofield led the Bruins with 17 points, converting 8-of-10 shot attempts. Christian Gray also finished in double-figures with 14 points, and Kur Kuath contributed 12 points and 7 rebounds.
Salt Lake has a Monday game in Oregon, as the Bruins travel to face Treasure Valley Community College. Next week will feature a three-game week for Salt Lake as the Bruins will host Hillcrest Prep Thursday and Williston State College Saturday, on top of the Monday contest.Â
