Softball:

Five late runs lead to a shutout victory

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – In a scoreless game headed to the fifth inning, SLCC was able to break away from Colorado Northwestern (CNCC) to secure a Region 18 tournament opening round 5-0 victory.

Through four innings, starting pitchers Baylee Reeves (SLCC) and Rilee Lutz (CNCC) were magnificent holding the opposing offenses at bay. However, it was the clutch hitting by SLCC in the fifth and sixth innings that was the difference.

Taylor Tann (Syracuse, UT), Payton Hart (Bountiful, UT) and Megan Reed (Pocatello, ID) had RBI hits in the fifth inning including a pair of doubles by Tann and Hart. Tann added another RBI double in the sixth inning to round out the scoring for the 5-0 win.

Reeves picked up her team leading 13th win of the year and Lutz took the loss for CNCC. Tann ended the game a perfect 3-3 as Hart was the only other Lady Bruin with a multi-hit effort.

SLCC's next game in the Region 18 tournament held at the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, Idaho will be tomorrow, May 8, at 2:30 p.m. against North Idaho College. Live stats will be available at CSI's athletic website "Live Game Stats" link on the right side of http://athletics.csi.edu/.
