Softball:SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – It was
Megan Bradshaw (Orem, UT),
Taylor Tann (Syracuse, UT) and
Kellie McCleve's (Glendora, CA) day as the trio was honored for playing their final home games of their career. However, 26 combined base hits by Snow College proved to be too much as the SLCC Lady Bruins dropped both games of a doubleheader on Sophomore Day.
Game one saw the Lady Bruins strike first with a run in the first inning. Back-to-back singles by
Megan Reed (Pocatello, ID) and
Payton Hart (Bountiful, UT) started things off for SLCC. Advancing to second and third on an illegal pitch set up an RBI situation for clean-up hitter
Megan Bradshaw (Orem, UT) as she simply hit a routine groundout to second to plate Reed for an early 1-0 lead.
The SLCC bats then went silent as the Snow College bats went to work. Two runs in the third highlighted by a Nicole Weiss home run, a six hit four run inning in the fourth, and another run in the fifth put SLCC in a 7-1 hole heading to bottom half of the fifth.
Riana Splinter (Las Vegas, NV) and
Chelsa Baca (Las Vegas, NV) started the bottom of the sixth with a single and double. Splinter ended up scoring by an error on the second baseman putting the score to 7-2. An RBI groundout by
Taylor Tann (Syracuse, UT) scored Baca getting the Lady Bruins within breathing room heading the seventh inning 7-3.
Snow College sucked out any hope of another late inning SLCC comeback with two home runs including a two run shot by Elise Sutherland in the top half of the seventh securing a final score of 10-3 in favor of the Lady Badgers.
Snow's Belle Stoddard picked up the win as SLCC'S
Baylee Reeves (Brigham City, UT) took the loss. Leadoff hitter Ally McAfee led Snow's 14 hit attack with four hits. Bradshaw and Tann each had two hits in SLCC's 10 hit performance.
Game two saw Snow College put together a huge third inning en route to a 13-0 run rule victory in five innings over SLCC who simply could not get anything going.
A single run in the first inning led to the Lady Badgers sending 14 hitters to the plate in the top half of the third. A Karlee Manzione two RBI double and a grand-slam by Kenzie Rasmussen led Snow to plate 10 runs in the inning settling the score at a comfortable 11-0.
Two more runs in the fourth by Snow rounded out the game's scoring as the Lady Bruins only managed three total hits and two runners reaching scoring position.
Snow's Taylor Allman picked up the win as Lady Bruin pitcher
Paige Reimann took the loss.
Corinne Cleverly (West Valley, UT) and
Kirsten Anderson (St. George, UT) recorded singles for SLCC and Splinter smacked a double in the first inning.
SLCC closes out their regular season with an impressive 33-19 overall record including a second place SWAC finish at 31-16 in conference play. Reed led the Lady Bruins with a .402 batting average and a .476 on base percentage. Bradshaw finished with a .388 batting average, respectively. Splinter and
KyRae Kogianes (Riverton, UT) both notched double digit home run seasons with 16 and 14. Reeves led the pitching staff with 12 total wins in the circle followed closely by Reimann with 10 wins.
Coach
Cyndee Bennett and the Lady Bruins will now prepare for the Region 18 Tournament hosted by regular season SWAC champion College of Southern Idaho held in Twin Falls, Idaho May 7-10.
