SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – Less than one week away from the Region 18 Tournament, the SLCC softball team (33-17, 31-14) was able to pull out a doubleheader sweep over visiting in-state rival Snow College (22-27, 19-26 SWAC) by scores of 4-1 and 8-7.

Game one featured an early pitcher's duel between SLCC starter Baylee Reeves (Brigham City, UT) and Snow starter Belle Stoddard. Through 3.5 innings, the two allowed a total of five hits with no runs. That changed once freshman catcher Riana Splinter (Las Vegas, NV) came up to lead off the bottom of the fourth for the Lady Bruins.

Splinter pounded her team leading 16th home run, a solo shot, to put the Lady Bruins up 1-0. Snow answered in the top half of the fifth with a rally of their own. Danika Gough reached second base an infield error. Pinch ran for by Kayla Larson, Larson advanced to third on a groundout and later scored on a passed ball to even score 1-1.

Splinter again started the offense in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff walk. A bunt single by sophomore Megan Bradshaw (Orem, UT) set the stage for freshman KyRae Kogianes (Riverton, UT) as she belted a double scoring Splinter and Bradshaw giving SLCC a 3-1 lead. An RBI single by sophomore first baseman Taylor Tann (Syracuse, UT) and a 1-2-3 inning for Snow in the seventh sealed the 4-1 for the Lady Bruins.

Reeves picked up her 12th win of the year as Stoddard evened her record to 13-13. Bradshaw and Corinne Cleverly (West Valley, UT) both notched multi-hit efforts for SLCC.

Game two looked to be all Snow early as the Lady Badgers managed to jump to a 7-0 lead after the third inning. After a scoreless first, SLCC starting pitcher Courtney Platt (Riverton, UT) allowed a leadoff walk to Karlee Manzione followed by two consecutive singles to load the bases with zero outs. A third single drove in a run followed by an RBI groundout put the lead at 2-0 in Snow's favor. With the bases loaded and one out, Coach Cyndee Bennett called upon freshman Paige Reimann (South Jordan, UT) to minimize the damage. After walking in another run, Reimann settled down and struck out the next batter leaving the score at 3-0.

Snow continued its momentum the next frame and in a huge way. With the bases loaded and one out, Snow's Elise Sutherland stepped up and belted a grand-slam to put the lead to 7-0.

SLCC finally got on the board in the fourth. Tann reached on a walk followed by one out singles by Kirsten Anderson (St. George, UT) and Megan Reed (Pocatello, ID) to load the bases. Payton Hart (Bountiful, UT) then singled in Tann to cut the lead to 7-1.
The Lady Bruins continued to chip away in the fifth inning as Chelsa Baca (Las Vegas, NV) singled home Bradshaw. Anderson then forced a two run two out error putting the score 7-4 at the end of the frame.

With Reimann only allowing three hits in innings 4-7, the Lady Bruins had one last chance to salvage a miraculous 7 run comeback. A one out bases loaded passed ball put the score to 7-5. A Hart walk loaded the bases once again, however a fielder's choice out at home off the bat of
Splinter sent Bradshaw up with two outs. Bradshaw pounded a bases clearing double giving SLCC the walk off 8-7 victory.

Reimann picked up her 10th win of the year as Stoddard took her second loss of the day. Hart led the way for the Lady Bruins with three hits.

SLCC will wrap up their regular season tomorrow, May 3 with a doubleheader starting at noon. Playing in their final home games as a SLCC Lady Bruin, sophomores Bradshaw, Tann and Kellie McCleve (Glendora, CA) will be honored as the Lady Bruins will hold Sophomore Day prior to first pitch.
