Softball:Fighting back from two runs down, CSI defeats SLCC with walk off in the eighthTWIN FALLS, IDAHO – The way a championship game should be played, the SLCC Lady Bruins went wire to wire with CSI only to end up one run short in a 3-2 defeat in eight innings.
CSI wasted no time putting a run on the board as the Lady Golden Eagles sent a first inning home run over the wall and an RBI single in the second for an early 2-0 over the Lady Bruins.
SLCC answered with a run of their own in the third.
Kirsten Anderson (St. George, UT) hit a one out double and scored on a throwing error by CSI's pitcher on a ball hit by
Megan Reed (Pocatello, ID) to cut the score to 2-1.
Riana Splinter (Las Vegas, NV) continued her offensive terror by knocking an RBI single in the fifth inning to score Reed and tie the game 2-2.
SLCC posed a threat for the lead in the sixth.
KyRae Kogianes (Riverton, UT) led off the inning with a single. After a line out by
Courtney Beavers (Murray, UT),
Taylor Tann (Syracuse, UT) moved Kogianes to third by ripping a single to right and advanced to second on the play. Still with one out, a pop up and line out ended the inning and the threat for the Lady Bruins.
SLCC failed to push a runner in scoring position in the seventh or eighth, nor did CSI in the sixth or seventh setting up a chance for the Lady Golden Eagles in the eighth. With two outs and runners on first and third, CSI right fielder Amanda Sheets poked a single to right field for the 3-2 walk off Region 18 championship victory.
