Salt Lake City, UT—The SLCC softball team (23-13, 21-10 SWAC) swept a pair of games with Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent North Idaho College (NIC) (21-16, 18-12 SWAC) on Saturday at Bruin Field. SLCC won the regular season series with NIC 5-3 and is currently in third place in the SWAC standings.

The Bruins fell to the Cardinals 3-1 in game one and defeated NIC by a final score of 2-1 in the day's second contest.

Game 1 Recap: The Cardinals struck first with one run in each of the first two innings of play to build a 2-0 lead. NIC stretched its lead to 3-0 with another tally in the top of the fifth inning. Salt Lake put its lone run on the scoreboard with solo home run from freshman pitcher Chelsa Baca (Las Vegas, NV) in the bottom of the fifth inning. Neither side would score again for the remainder of the contest at NIC held on for the 3-1 victory.

Game 1 Stats vs. NIC: Baca was 1-for-1 with a home run and the lone run batted in (RBI) for SLCC in game one. Freshman infielder Payton Hart (Bountiful, UT) was 1-for-3 and freshman catcher KyRae Kogianes (Riverton, UT) was 1-for-3 at the plate with a double.

Freshman pitcher Paige Reimann (6-2) (South Jordan, UT) took the loss in game one with seven strikeouts, four walks, seven hits and three runs (two earned) allowed in a complete game effort.

Game 2 Recap: Neither side scored a run through the first five innings of play until the Cardinals took a 1-0 lead after six innings. Kogianes came to bat with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh inning for SLCC and hit a game-winning two-RBI walk off double to help the Bruins to the 2-1 victory.

Game 2 Stats vs. NIC: Kogianes was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI and Hart was 0-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. Sophomore infielder Megan Bradshaw (Orem, UT) was 1-for-3 with a walk in the winning effort.

Freshman pitcher Courtney Platt (Riverton, UT) struck out one NIC batter with no walks and one earned run allowed in 5.1 innings of work. Freshman pitcher Baylee Reeves (Brigham City, UT) earned the win with no hits or runs allowed in 1.2 innings in the circle.

Next up for Head Coach Cyndee Bennett and the Bruins is a pair of home games against SWAC opponent Western Nevada College (WNC) (9-27, 6-21 SWAC) on Friday, Apr. 4 at Bruin Field. First pitch for game one is slated for 1 p.m. with game two beginning 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first contest.
