Rangely, CO—The SLCC softball team (18-12, 16-9 SWAC) split a pair of road contests against Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) (3-29, 3-24 SWAC) on Friday.

The Bruins defeated the Lady Spartans 6-3 in game one and lost a 4-3 decision with CNCC in walk-off fashion in the day's second contest. SLCC leads the regular season series with CNCC 4-2.

Game 1 Recap: SLCC took an early 2-0 lead on a two-run double from sophomore infielder Megan Bradshaw (Orem, UT ) in the first inning. Salt Lake never trailed, with its offensive output for game one led by sophomore catcher Riana Splinter (Las Vegas, NV) who singled in the third inning and homered in  the fifth frame.

A solo home run from freshman infielder Taylor Tann (Syracuse, UT) in the fourth inning helped SLCC cement the road victory as freshman pitcher Baylee Reeves (Brigham City, UT) picked up her seventh win of the season with a complete game effort.

Game 1 Stats vs. CNCC: Splinter was 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run for one run batted in (RBI) and three runs scored. Bradshaw was 1-for-3 with a double, a stolen base and one RBI and freshman catcher KyRae Kogianes (Riverton, UT) was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

Tann was 1-for-3 with a home run and freshman infielder Payton Hart (Bountiful, UT) was 2-for-4 two runs scored in the winning effort. Reeves struck out three CNCC batters with no walks, four hits and three runs, all earned, allowed in a seven inning complete game effort. Her record now stands at 7-3 on the season.

Game 2 Recap: Freshman infielder Megan Reed (Pocatello, ID) reached base on four separate occasions and had one base hit in the losing effort. The Bruins built an early 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning as freshman outfielder Courtney Beavers (Murray, UT) hit a single followed by a base hit from Megan Bradshaw that scored teammates Megan Reed and Riana Splinter.

CNCC rallied with two runs in the fourth inning and added another in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead. SLCC would tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the seventh inning. The Lady Spartans broke the tie to win the game for the Lady Spartans on a single by Jaisha Webb.

Colorado Northwestern out-hit SLCC 10-7 and the Bruins committed the only fielding error in game two.

Game 2 Stats vs. CNCC: Bradshaw was 1-for-4 with two RBI and Kogianes was 1-for-4 with one RBI. Taylor Tann was 1-for-3 with a double and Reed was 1-for-1 with two runs scored and walked three times.

Freshman pitcher Paige Reimann (South Jordan, UT) struck out four CNCC batters with seven hits and three runs, all earned, allowed in a five-inning start. Baylee Reeves took the loss with one strikeout, three hits and one unearned run allowed in one and two thirds innings pitched.

Next up for Head Coach Cyndee Bennett and the Bruins is a pair of contests with CNCC on Saturday, Mar. 22 in Rangely, CO. First pitch for game one is slated for Noon with game two beginning 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game.
