Bruins win pair of close contests over SWAC rival at Little Valley

St. George, UT—The No. 16 SLCC Softball team (7-6, 5-3 SWAC) won a pair of contests with Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent North Idaho College (NIC) (5-6, 1-3 SWAC) on Saturday at Little Valley.

The Bruins won the day's first game 11-8 in an eight-inning matchup and out-hit the NIC Cardinals 15-12 en route to the neutral-site victory. All of NIC's tallies in game one came on home runs (4), with the Bruins sending two pitches over the centerfield wall in the winning effort.

SLCC edged NIC 4-3 in game two of the doubleheader, with NIC turning in 11 base hits to nine for SLCC.

Game 1 – Stats vs. NIC: SLCC freshman catcher KyRae Kogianes (Riverton, UT) was 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of home runs. The Riverton High School graduate knocked a three-run home run over the centerfield wall in the third inning and gave SLCC a two-run lead in the top of the seventh with a two-run shot, finishing the contest with five runs batted in (RBI).

Freshman infielder Bailie Nelson (Las Vegas, NV) was 2-for-5 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored and freshman catcher Rianna Splinter (Las Vegas, NV) was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and one RBI.

Game 2 – Stats vs. NIC: Freshman pitcher Courtney Platt (Riverton, UT) picked up the win with one strikeout, two walks, nine hits and one run (earned) allowed in six innings of work. Freshman pitcher Baylee Reeves (Brigham City, UT) allowed two hits with no walks and no strikeouts and two runs, both earned, allowed in one inning in the circle.

Freshman infielder Megan Reed (Pocatello, ID) was 3-for-5 at the plate with a stolen base and one RBI and Nelson was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Next up for Head Coach Cyndee Bennett and the Bruins is a doubleheader against SWAC opponent Western Nevada College on Friday, Feb. 14 in Carson City, NV. First pitch for game one is slated for 1 p.m. (MST) and game two will get underway 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first contest.
