St. George, UT—The
No. 16-ranked SLCC Softball team (5-6, 3-3 SWAC) lost a pair of contests to Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent North Idaho College (NIC) (5-3, 2-0 SWAC) on Friday at Little Valley.
The Bruins dropped a
6-3 decision to the Cardinals in game one, with NIC using a five-run fourth inning to secure the neutral-site win. SLCC out-hit NIC 9-8 in the losing effort with the Cardinals hitting three home runs in the contest.
SLCC fell to NIC
8-0 in the day's second contest with the Cardinals tallying 13 base hits compared to six for the Bruins. NIC won by run rule in six innings.
Game 1 – Stats vs. NIC: Bruin freshman pitcher
Courtney Platt (Riverton, UT) took the game one loss with one strikeout, two walks, four hits and four runs (three earned) allowed in three innings of work. Freshman pitcher
Baylee Reeves (Brigham City, UT) struck out three Cardinal batters with no walks, four hits and two runs allowed, both earned, in three innings pitched.

Rianna Splinter (Las Vegas, NV) was 1-for-4 at the plate with a double and one run batted in (RBI) as the designated hitter. Sophomore infielder

Courtney Beavers (Murray, UT) was 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Game 2 – Stats vs. NIC: SLCC freshman pitcher
Chelsa Baca (Las Vegas, NV) took the loss with no strikeouts, one walk, 12 hits and eight runs (seven earned) allowed in 5.1 innings pitched.
Reeves yielded one hit and faced two NIC batters in 0.1 innings in the circle.
Beavers went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and
Splinter was 1-for-3 at the plate with a single.
Next up for Head Coach
Cyndee Bennett and the Bruins is a doubleheader vs. NIC on Saturday, Feb. 8 in St. George, UT with first pitch for game one slated for Noon. Game two of the doubleheader will begin 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first contest.
