Salt Lake City, UT—The No. 16-ranked SLCC Softball team (13-9, 11-6 SWAC) split a doubleheader with Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent College of Southern Nevada (CSN) (14-7, 9-6 SWAC) on Friday at Bruin Softball Field.

Game 1 Recap: The Bruins trailed the Coyotes 1-0 in the second inning until freshman catcher KyRae Kogianes (Riverton, UT) tagged a three-run home run over the wall to give SLCC its first lead at 3-1. Salt Lake would add a tally in the third frame and tacked on two more in the fourth inning to build a 6-2 lead. SLCC added one more run in the fifth inning and held off a two-run CSN rally in the top of the seventh inning to secure its fourth straight win.

SLCC finished with seven base hits to four for the Coyotes, with the Bruins committing three errors in the field to one for CSN.

Game 2 Recap: SLCC scored its only run in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly from sophomore infielder Taylor Tann (Syracuse, UT). The Coyotes tallied three runs in the third inning and added an insurance run in the seventh frame to secure the 4-1 road victory.

SLCC finished with three base hits and three fielding errors and CSN turned in six base hits with one error committed.

Game 1 – Stats vs. CSN: Freshman pitcher Paige Reimann (South Jordan, UT) struck out eight CSN batters with two walks, four hits and four runs (one earned) allowed in a complete game effort.

Freshman infielder Megan Reed (Pocatello, ID) was 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs batted in (RBI) and freshman catcher Riana Splinter (Las Vegas, NV) was 1-for-3 with a home run as the designated hitter. Kogianes was 1-for-1 with a three-run home run.

Game 2 – Stats vs. CSN: Freshman pitcher Courtney Platt (Riverton, UT) struck out one Coyote batter with three walks and two hits allowed.  The Riverton High School graduate allowed two runs, both earned, in two innings of work.
Freshman pitcher Baylee Reeves (Brigham City, UT) had three strikeouts with no walks issued and four hits allowed in five innings pitched. The Box Elder High School graduate allowed two runs, one earned, in the losing effort.

Head Coach Cyndee Bennett and the Bruins will complete this weekend's four-game series with CSN on Saturday, Mar. 1 with first pitch for game one of the doubleheader slated for Noon. Game two will begin 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first contest.
