Henderson, NV—The No. 16-ranked SLCC Softball team (0-2) opened its 2014 campaign with two losses on Saturday at the Southern Nevada Kickoff in Henderson, NV. The Bruins fell to No. 18 Eastern Arizona College (EAC) 5-2 in the day's first game and dropped a 7-3 decision to No. 4-ranked Pima Community College (PCC) in the afternoon contest.

Today's pair of ballgames marked the first regular season games of new Head Coach Cyndee Bennett's collegiate head coaching career at SLCC.

Stats vs. EAC: Bruin freshman pitcher Courtney Platt (Riverton, UT) threw one strikeout with four walks in four innings pitched with one earned run allowed. Freshman Paige Reimann (South Jordan, UT) struck out two EAC batters with four walks and an earned run and freshman Chelsa Baca (Las Vegas, NV) had one strikeout from the circle.
Freshman first baseman/outfielder Megan Reed (Pocatello, ID) was 2-for-3 at the plate in the losing effort.

Stats vs. PCC: SLCC freshman pitcher Baylee Reeves (Brigham City, UT) allowed two earned runs with eight hits and struck out two Aztec batters in 3.2 innings of work. Baca yielded one earned run on five hits with a strikeout in 2.1 innings of relief.
Freshman catcher Riana Splinter (Las Vegas, NV) was 2-for-2 with the bat including a home run.

Next up for Coach Bennett and the Bruins is a slate of three games on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Southern Nevada Kickoff. SLCC will open the day against No. 14-ranked Gulf Coast College at 9 a.m. and the Bruins will square off with Yavapai College in the middle game of the tripleheader, first pitch is set for 11:30 a.m. The three-time defending NJCAA National runner-up Bruins will finish up Saturday's action with a game against Central Arizona College and first pitch is slated for 5:30 p.m.
