Bruins need three wins on Saturday to clinch program's first national championship

St. George, UT—The SLCC Softball team (52-10) split a pair of contests at the National Junior College Athletic Association National Tournament on Friday. SLCC defeated Chipola College 12-0 in the afternoon contest and fell to Wallace State College 8-1 in the night cap.

Game 1 SLCC Stats vs. Chipola: Sophomore pitcher MaCauley Flint (Roy, UT) struck out nine Chipola batters and allowed one hit in a complete game effort.

Sophomore infielder Maddy Woodard (Murray, UT) was 2-for-4 at the plate with four runs batted in (RBI) and sophomore designated player Whitney Holt (Tooele, UT) was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and four RBI. Sophomore outfielder Malia Campos (Murray, UT) scored three runs in the winning effort.

Game 2 SLCC Stats vs. Wallace St.: Flint struck out four WSC batters in four innings of work. Freshman pitcher Ashley Kay struck out two Wallace St. hitters in three innings in the circle. Bruin sophomore outfielder Lauren Hager tallied the lone RBI for SLCC and was 1-for-3 at the plate in the losing effort.

Head Coach Mary Kay Amicone and the Bruins will take the field at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 17 for a play-in contest to earn their third straight NJCAA National Championship Game appearance. The Bruins will need a win in the play-in game and two victories over Wallace State to win the national title.
