Bruin Softball splits SWAC matchups with rival Southern Idaho

SLCC stays one game ahead of CSI in SWAC title race

Holt hits two home runs, Bruins stay one game ahead of CSI in SWAC title race

Taylorsville, UT—The No. 2-ranked SLCC Softball team (37-6, 31-3 SWAC) split a pair of matchups with Scenic West Athletic Conference rival No. 6-ranked College of Southern Idaho (CSI) (36-8, 30-4 SWAC) on Friday at Bruin Field. The Bruins fell to the Golden Eagles 4-3 in game one and earned an 8-2 victory in the second contest. The doubleheader split keeps SLCC one game ahead of CSI for the conference lead.

Game 1 SLCC Stats: 
Bruin sophomore pitcher MaCauley Flint (Roy, UT) took the game one loss with five strikeouts and four earned runs allowed in six innings of work. Sophomore designated player Whitney Holt (Tooele, UT) was 1-for-3 at the plate with a home run and two runs batted in (RBIs). Sophomore outfielder Tanisha Anderson (Murray, UT) was 1-for-2 with a home run and sophomore outfielder Malia Campos (Murray, UT) was 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base in the losing effort.

Game 2 SLCC Stats: 
Freshman pitcher Ashley Kay (South Jordan, UT) picked up the game two win with five strikeouts and two earned runs allowed in a complete game effort. Holt went 1-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and hit her second home run on the day. Sophomore infielder Maddy Woodard (Murray, UT) was 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI and Anderson was 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Next up for Head Coach Mary Kay Amicone and the Bruins is a second doubleheader against CSI on Saturday, Apr. 13 at Bruin Field. First pitch for game one is slated for Noon.
