No. 1 SLCC Softball defeats No. 8 Eastern Arizona and El Paso CC at Great Western Shootout

Yuma, AZ—The No. 1-ranked SLCC Softball team (4-3) picked up a pair of wins at the Great Western Shootout on Friday. The Bruins defeated No. 8 Eastern Arizona Community College (EACC) 7-0 in the day's first game and edged past El Paso College (EPC) 5-4 in the afternoon game.
In the victory over No. 8 EACC, Bruin sophomore MaCauley Flint (Roy, UT) pitched a shutout, allowing just five hits and striking out nine batters. Sophomore infielderWhitney Holt (Tooele, UT) was 2 for 4 at the plate with two triples and sophomore catcher Lyndsey Healey (Spanish Fork, UT) hit a two-run home run in the winning effort.
SLCC freshman infielders Taylor Tann (Syracuse, UT) and Lauryn Kirschner (Kaysville, UT) each recorded doubles in the Bruins' afternoon win over El Paso, with Tann's extra base hit bringing a run in. Holt was 2-for-3 with a triple and one RBI and freshman pitcher Kailey Christensen (Spanish Fork, UT) earned the win and allowed just four El Paso base hits.
Next up for Head Coach Mary Kay Amicone and the top-ranked Bruins is another doubleheader at the Great Western Shootout in Yuma, AZ on Saturday, Feb. 2. SLCC will face Golden West CC at 8 a.m. and will close out the early season tournament against Arizona Western at 10 a.m.
