The Inside Scoop:
No. 16 SLCC WBB @ No. 2 NIC WBB
The
No. 16-ranked SLCC Women's Basketball team (13-7, 4-3 SWAC) will face conference rival
No. 2-ranked North Idaho College (NIC) (22-1, 6-1 SWAC) on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. MT. The Bruins are in on the heels of a tough 69-68 road loss to the College of Southern Idaho on Thursday and look to return to the winning ways of their previous three road contests. The Bruins are the only team to have beaten the Cardinals this season, rallying from seven points down at the half on Jan. 3 to take down then
No. 1-ranked and unbeaten NIC 55-49 at Bruin Arena.
In the previous matchup between the two teams, SLCC sophomore guard
Katie Richens (Roosevelt, UT) took the game over, leading all scorers with 20 points and completing a double-double effort with 10 rebounds. Bruin freshman
Natalie Parsons (Bountiful, UT) scored 17 points, catching fire from distance and knocking down 5 of 8 three point attempts. Sophomore center
Rachel Morris (Mesquite, NV) fought through early foul trouble to score eight points and grab four rebounds in the winning effort.
The Bruins will need another strong team and individual effort on Saturday to bring down one of the nation's top progams twice in a row. The Cardinals will no doubt have vengeance in mind for the Bruins, seeking redemption for the only blemish on an otherwise perfect win-loss record.
No. 11 SLCC MBB @ No. 13 NIC MBB
The
No. 11-ranked SLCC Men's Basketball team (19-2, 7-0 SWAC) will square off with
No. 13 North Idaho (20-3, 7-1 SWAC) on Saturday in Coeur d'Alene, ID, and if the previous meeting between these teams is any indicator, tonight's matchup should be a battle.
On Jan. 3, the Bruins rallied from a 15-point deficit in the second half to steal the win over NIC at Bruin Arena. SLCC sophomore guard
Skyler Halford (Orem, UT) led all scorers with 25 points including two free throws with 1.1 seconds remaining to give SLCC the lead.
Halford had dribbled nearly the entire length of the floor in just six seconds to draw the crucial foul call on the baseline.
The Bruins hope to get off to better offensive start in today's matchup with the Cardinals, who will be looking for payback and a win over SLCC, with the Bruins being the only team in the SWAC to hand the Cards a loss so far this season.
