No. 1-ranked SLCC Softball team (1-2) dropped two of three opening day contests at the Southern Nevada Kickoff on Friday. The Bruins lost the opening matchup with
No. 16 Yavapai College 6-5, defeated Arizona Western CC 7-4 in the day's second contest and closed out the day with a 9-6 loss to
No. 8 Eastern Arizona.
In the day's opening contest vs. Yavapai, SLCC sophomore outfielder
Malia Campos (Murray, UT) was 3-of-4 at the plate with two runs scored and sophomore catcher
Lyndsey Healey (Spanish Fork, UT) was 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Bruin sophomore pitcher
MaCauley Flint (Roy, UT) struck nine Yavapai batters out in the loss.
In SLCC's win over Arizona Western,
Campos went 2 for 3 with a triple,
Healey was also 2 for 3 with the bat turning in a double and an RBI and freshman pitcher
Kellie McCleve (Glendora, CA) allowed five hits and struck out two batters to clinch the win.
Sophomore infielder
Whitney Holt (Tooele, UT) was a perfect 4-for-4 with the bat in the Bruins' loss to Eastern Arizona, with a double and a three-run home run.
Campos was 2-for-4 with a triple and freshman pitcher
Alex Petrolia (Henderson, NV) allowed eight hits in 5.2 innings of work.
