TWIN FALLS, Idaho (April 3, 2010) – The number one ranked SLCC Bruin Softball team split the four game series with Southern Idaho. Salt Lake dropped the first game 7-12 won the middle two games 18-6 & 6-0 and fell in the final game 4-5. The losses were SLCC's first of the season and moves their record to 42-2 overall and 29-2 in the SWAC. Salt Lake maintains their five game lead over Southern Idaho for first place in the SWAC.
In the opening game of the weekend Southern Idaho jumped to an early 2-0 lead however Salt Lake answered back to tie the game at three. With a combined 29 hits in the game scoring was not hard to come by, with the game tied at 7-7 in the sixth inning Southern Idaho scored 4 runs to put the game away. Stacie Graham was 4-4 with a triple and a RBI. Jordyn McDonald and Kylee Bufton each had a solo home run. Kylee Brinkerhoff finished 2-4 with a double and three RBI's.
Salt Lake answered back after their first loss of the season by scoring 18 runs on 19 hits over three innings in the second game. Jordyn McDonald struck out 10 batters on the mound as well as going 3-4 with three RBI's and a double at the plate. Erika James hit her first home run of her career and Cyd Allen finished with 5 RBI's hitting a double and a home run.
In game three Salt Lake scored six runs off of eight hits with McDonald hitting a two run home run to open up the scoring. Erika James hit two doubles and Shaynie Phillips was 1-3 with two RBI's. McDonald picked up her second win on the weekend allowing two hits while fanning five batters.
The final game saw the bats of Salt Lake go quiet managing a season low four hits. Katelyn Elliott hit a RBI double and Phillips connected on a solo home run. Sarah Clark got the loss allowing 12 hits, two earned runs and 7 strikeouts.
No. 1 SLCC (42-2, 29-2 SWAC) continue to stay on the road with a trip down to Henderson, Nevada to face the Coyotes of Southern Nevada on April 9th and 10th.
