Salt Lake City, Utah- No. 13 SLCC Softball (23-9) and CSI (24-11) split their four game series once again. The top two teams in the SWAC are neck and neck at this point of the season.
Salt Lake won the first game of the day 3-2. The seven inning game was almost five hours long because of two different lightning delays. Both starting pitchers threw all seven innings. LHP Brecka Larson struck out six and gave up two unearned runs. Larson is now (9-1) on the year. CSI scored the first run of the game in the top of the fourth. SS Jazmine Prathan tied the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. CF Lahela Painter brought in the go ahead run in the bottom of the sixth and C Savannah Palmatier tacked on an insurance run with a second RBI single in the inning. CSI got one run back in the top of the seventh before stranding two runners to end the game.
In an exciting series finale which had at least one run scored in each inning, CSI defeated SLCC 10-7. CSI led 3-1 after the top of the third. C Savannah Palmatier hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third to make it a 3-2 game. In the fourth inning LF Taitumn Reynen hit an RBI single to tie the game. Palmatier gave SLCC a 5-3 lead with a two-RBI double in the fourth. Both teams plated a run in the fifth inning off RBI singles.
CSI scored three runs in the top of the sixth with two outs to take the lead 7-6. SS Jazmine Prathan hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 7-7 game. The Golden Eagles had another big inning and plated three runs in the top of the seventh and held Salt Lake in the bottom of the seventh to win 10-7.
