Salt Lake City, Utah- No. 21 SLCC Softball (13-7) completed the series sweep against USU-Eastern (7-9) in the Bruins home-opening series.
Salt Lake won game three 9-1 in six innings. Paige Fennell pitched the entire game for the Bruins and only allowed three hits and one run. Paige finished with eight strikeouts.
Salt Lake scored two unearned runs in the first inning. After a solo home run in the top of the fourth for USU-Eastern the Bruins scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning and led 6-1. Madi Bowen, Irma Medina, and Taitumn Reynen all hit RBI singles in the fourth.
Jazmine Prathan brought in a run with a sac-fly in the fifth and Lahela Painter added an RBI triple in the inning as well. An RBI single from Olivia Harker in the bottom of the sixth ended the game.
The Bruins finished the series with a wild 15-7 victory that ended in five innings. After the top of the second the Eagles held a 4-1 lead. SLCC tied it after a two RBI triple from Savannah Palmatier and an RBI double from Jettlee Ioane. A sac-fly from Lahela Painter in the third gave the Bruins a 5-4 lead. USU-E answered with three unearned runs in the top of the fourth and retook the lead 7-5.
In the bottom of the fourth Palmatier hit an RBI single and then Prathan hit a three-run home run to give the Bruins a 9-7 lead. Salt Lake scored in every inning and poured in six runs in the fifth to win the game. Palmatier and Ioane hit RBI singles in the fifth. The Eagles committed four errors in the series finale, which led to three of the Bruins' runs being unearned.
