TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (Monday, May 6, 2024) - Fifth-ranked Salt Lake (45-7, 36-4 SWAC) opened the Region 18 postseason tournament in grand fashion, blowing out Utah State Eastern 11-1 to set up a rematch with the College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles on Tuesday, May 7.
Shelbee Jones got the start in the circle and had no trouble with the Eagles lineup. Jones went three innings, striking out seven while giving up one hit. Jones was the usual power threat in the heart of the Bruin lineup as well, going 3-3 with two second-inning solo homers.Â
The Bruins used a nine-run second inning to pull away from USU E thanks to four homers in the frame.Â
Kylee Ruesch followed Jones' homer with a three run shot that scored Jettlee Ioane and Chloe Woods. Bailey Marvin and Lexi Shaver also hit long balls for SLCC.
Ruesch, Shaver, and Kendyl Purdy had two hits each while Salt Lake pounded out 13 base hits as a team.Â
Mikayla Jankovic gave up one hit in the final two innings.Â
