No 5 Bruins softball sweeps CSN to secure SWAC regular-season crown

Salt Lake pitchers dominate series in season finale

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (Thursday, May 2, 2024)— Fifth-ranked Salt Lake rebounded from a slow start on Friday afternoon to run-rule the Coyotes in back-to-back games, completing the season sweep over Southern Nevada. The Bruins also clinched the Scenic West Athletic Conference championship, securing the right to host the Region 18 Championships May 6-8 at Norma Carr Field.

SLCC finished 44-7 overall and 36-4 in SWAC play.

Game Three
SLCC 15 | CSN 7

Redshirt sophomore Bailey Marvin blew the game wide open with a third-inning grand slam as Salt Lake jumped in front 8-2.

Marvin led the offense with six RBIs. Miranda Mansfield went 3-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, while Aubree Leonard and Erin Robinson each had two RBIs.

Kylee Ruesch had a pinch-hit, two-RBI single in the fifth to walk off the Coyotes.

Tiffany Hermansen threw the Bruins' third complete game of the weekend. The Ephraim, Utah sophomore won despite giving up eight hits, seven earned runs, and walking four batters.

Game Four
SLCC 10 | CSN 2

Emma Bradley-Tse took advantage of a rundown, scoring from third after Kendyl Purdy singled and was caught trying to turn a single into a double, ending the run-rule-shortened Bruin win.

Salt Lake swept the four-game series after scoring ten unanswered runs, beginning with Shelbee Jones's two-run homer in the bottom of the first.

Taylor Lewis-Balzarini went 2-3 with a two-run homer and three RBI to lead the Bruins in a four-game sweep over CSN.

McKenna Cahoon walked five but gave up two hits in the complete game win.
