TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (Friday, April 26, 2024)— Sixth-ranked Salt Lake took care of business on the road, winning four straight against the Snow College Badgers to maintain its poll position for the Scenic West Athletic Conference regular season crown.
The Bruins improved to 40-76 overall and 32-4 in SWAC play with the weekend sweep.
Game One
SLCC 11 | Snow 9
Shelbee Jones (10-2) got knocked around a bit in the circle, but hot-hitting Bruin bats bailed out the freshman pitcher for a game-one win.
Despite the struggles in the circle, Jones stayed focused at the plate, launching a three-run homer in the second inning to give Salt Lake an early six-run cushion.
Kendyl Purdy reached base five times, going 4-4 with a walk and two runs scored.
Jettlee Ioane drove in four runs while going 2-3 at the dish.
Game Two
SLCC 14 | Snow 6
Mikayla Jankovic started in the circle, giving up five runs (three earned) before giving way to Tiffany Hermansen, who finished the final three frames. Hermansen improved to 8-1, allowing two hits and one unearned run while striking out three.
Jones helped Salt Lake's cause at the plate, going 2-3 with three runs scored.
Six SLCC players finished with two or more hits, including 3-4 performances from Lexi Shaver and Jettlee Ioane. Chloe Woods and Kylee Reusch joined Ioane with three RBI in the high-scoring game.
Game Three
SLCC 19 | Snow 13
Salt Lake's offense staked another pitcher to a big lead, taking an 11-3 advantage into the third inning before the Badgers bats started to figure out Tiffany Hermansen. The sophomore pitcher from Ephraim, Utah, was touched up for 14 hits and 13 earned runs in the complete game effort.
The Bruins got home runs from Lexi Shaver (13), Jettlee Ioane (8), and Kylee Reusch (6), who topped double-figure runs in every game of the series. The trio combined for 17 RBI.
Game Four
SLCC 16 | Snow 6
The Bruins held a 14-2 lead after two innings, putting Snow College away early for the series sweep.
McKenna Cahoon remains undefeated, improving to 7-0 after scattering seven hits and six runs in the freshman's fourth complete game of the year.
SLCC had five extra-base hits, including four doubles, as part of their 16 hits.
Kendyl Purdy and Shelbee Jones each had three hits, while Jones and Jettlee Ioane had three RBI. Aubree Leonard went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
