WEST JORDAN, Utah (Friday, March 8, 2024) – No. 14 Salt Lake celebrated the grand opening of the brand new Cate Field facilities but saw its 12-game winning streak end in the second game of a doubleheader against CSI.
The Bruins and Golden Eagles matchup for another doubleheader on Saturday, March 9.
Game One
SLCC 2 | CSI 1
SLCC picked up a pair of first-inning hits and plated two runs, but the game then turned into a pitcher's duel between the Bruins' reigning SWAC Pitcher of the Week, Garrison Sumner, and CSI lefty Ashton Johnson.
Sumner (4-1) went 6.1 innings, scattering six hits, with the only run he allowed coming on a third-inning leadoff home run.
SWAC Player of the Week Trey Gambill finished 0-2 with an RBI on a sac fly in the first. Gage Easton singled home the winning run with his only hit of the afternoon.
Game Two
SLCC 3 | CSI 8
Luke Hines took the loss for the Bruins as he struggled with command in a short start. Hines labored through 1.2 innings, walking four batters and giving up three runs, one earned.
Easton led the SLCC offense with a 3-5 performance at the plate and an RBI. Gambill and second baseman Jack Bluth also registered RBI for Salt Lake.
