TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (Sunday, February 25, 2024) – No. 18 Salt Lake swept a Sunday afternoon doubleheader against Trinidad State, helping head coach DG Nelson to his 700th career win along the way.
Game One
SLCC 11 | Trinidad State 4
Sophomore righthander Garrison Sumner (2-1) went three innings and struck out six while giving up just one hit to get the win.
Freshman shortstop Jake Olsen went 2-4 at the plate with a double and four RBI. Sophomore catcher Ty Johnsen hit his first home run of the season.
The Bruins drew 14 walks against five strikeouts
Four Bruins relievers combined to give up four hits, six walks, and four earned runs in four innings.
Game Two
SLCC 14 | Trinidad State 3
Zach Monroe (1-0) threw the final three innings to pick up the win in a piggyback outing with starter Luke Hines.
Salt Lake scored three runs in the second and fourth innings then blew the game open with an eight-run sixth to seal the victory.
Olsen went 4-4, plating four runs for the second straight game. Luke Jacobs and Trey Gambill combined with Olsen to give Salt Lake eight hits, seven runs, and eight RBI out of the 3, 4, 5, spots in the batting order.
The No. 18 Bruins open Scenic West Athletic Conference play in the Centennial State against Colorado Northwestern CC.
