TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (Wednesday, January 10, 2024) – No. 5 Salt Lake dropped its Scenic West Athletic Conference opener at Southern Idaho by a 70-65 score.
The Bruins fell to 15-2 and 0-1 in SWAC play.
SLCC trailed by double figures for much of the second half before a late run that saw the Bruins take their first lead of the half, 59-58 after a Xavier Edmonds layup.
Both programs battled down the stretch but SLCC couldn't string together enough stops to steal a road win.
Edmonds' 22 points and 13 rebounds led Salt Lake in both categories. Jordan Battle added 14 points while Bryce Zephir chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds.
As a team, Salt Lake shot just 34.2 percent from the field and 25 percent from deep. Both are the lowest shooting percentages for SLCC this season.
Salt Lake continues its two-game Idaho road trip against the North Idaho Cardinals on Saturday, January 13. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. (MT).
