No. 14 SLCC Volleyball claims home match over No. 4 New Mexico Military Institute

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (August 31, 2023) – A battle of nationally ranked foes went the way of the No. 14 Salt Lake Community College volleyball team Thursday.

SLCC opened its annual 'Crystal "Inn"vitational' tournament with a hard-fought 3-2 win over No. 4 New Mexico Military Institute, winning by set scores of 25-16, 20-25, 25-13, 13-25, 15-11. The victory boosts SLCC to 5-4 overall.

In a match that went back-and-forth, SLCC claimed the win thanks to playing cleaner as New Mexico Military posted 33 errors. Salt Lake also held a 14-9 edge in blocks. Both teams were tied at 9-9 in the fifth set, prior to the Bruins going on a quick 3-0 run that was punctuated by a Brinlie Crosbie kill. 

Marija Tabak had 16 kills to lead Salt Lake, while Julia Oberg had 9 kills. Crosbie finished with 40 assists. 

The Bruins will continue play with a doubleheader on Friday, playing No. 8 Odessa and No. 10 Western Nebraska.
