Salt Lake City, Utah- No. 5 Salt Lake Volleyball (10-3) won in four sets and lost in four sets in their first two matches of the 2026 Bruin Bash. 

Salt Lake defeated Odessa College (6-8) in each team's first match of the day. 27-29, 25-22, 25-21, 25-19. In the opening set the Bruins had a few set points, but Odessa overcame them and won the thrilling first set 29-27. From there Salt Lake set the pace and won the next three sets over a good Odessa team. To start the regular season, the Wranglers have arguably played the hardest schedule in the entire NJCAA. 

Cameron Zajer had a match high 22 kills. Angelina Murase and Rylee Parkinson added double-digit kills with 13 kills and 11 kills respectively. Andie Thomas was efficient in the final two sets of the match as she added 8 kills. 

The Bruins leaned on setter Teagan Sabillon as she recorded 28 assists and 17 digs. Daxlyn Robinson led Salt Lake in digs with 26. Lana Hollway recorded 5 block assists. Ellie Crosbie and Murase added 3 block assists each. 

The reigning national champs Miami Dade (9-0) held off Salt Lake and snapped the Bruins five-match win streak. 19-25, 25-21, 17-25, 22-25. Salt Lake upset the Sharks 364 days ago, but the No. 1 team in the nation made sure that didn't happen again. 

The Bruins hit .293 in the match. Murase led Salt Lake with 17 kills. Zajer and Parkinson both chipped in 13 kills. Setter Swayzee Mason recorded 45 assists. 

Robinson recorded 21 digs in the loss. Crosbie, Hollway, and Murase all tallied 3 block assists.

The Bruins have two more matches tomorrow on September 12th. The first Salt Lake match starts at 11:30 am versus Eastern Wyoming. The Bruins last match of the weekend is at 4:30pm against Trinity Valley.
