No. 13 Bruins sweep Southern Nevada, earn Scenic West crown

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 28, 2023) – The No. 13 Salt Lake Community College Bruins are Scenic West Athletic Conference champions.
 
SLCC Softball earned its Scenic West crown thanks to a doubleheader sweep over Southern Nevada, earning victories of 12-4 and 11-3. The Bruins are now 35-9 overall and 25-4 in Scenic West play.
 
Salt Lake will host Southern Nevada in another doubleheader Saturday.
 
Salt Lake 12, Southern Nevada 4: SLCC took control and never let up in the run-rule victory.
 
Mikelle Anthony hit a two-run home run to jump-start Salt Lake's offense in the second inning, followed up by a Bailey Marvin home run to give SLCC a 6-0 lead. Lyndsey Madrigal added a three-run home run in the fourth inning.
 
Trinity Benson and Anthony were both perfect at the plate in the game, going 4-of-4 and 3-of-3, respectively. SLCC had 14 hits in the win. Taylor Hagen earned the pitching win, throwing six innings and posting four strikeouts. 
 
Salt Lake 11, Southern Nevada 3: The Bruins overcame an early deficit to post the sweep.
 
Trailing 3-1 in the second inning, Mikelle Anthony hit a two-run double to tie the game, then Brooklyn Pritchett hit an RBI double in the third inning to give SLCC a lead it would never relinquish. Lyndsey Madrigal and Bailey Marvin both hit home runs in the fourth inning.
 
Anthony went 2-of-3 at the plate, posting four RBI's. Tiffany Hermansen was the winning pitching, throwing five strikeouts.
