SLCC Softball sweeps Southern Idaho

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 17, 2023) – A matchup of two longtime Scenic West Athletic Conference softball powers ended in a sweep for the Salt Lake Community College Softball team.
 
Salt Lake swept Southern Idaho at the start of a four-game road series, with SLCC earning wins of 5-3 and 11-7. The day's decision moves the Bruins to 15-7 in Scenic West play and 9-1 overall.
 
SLCC will play another doubleheader Saturday.
 
Salt Lake 5, Southern Idaho 3: A late scoring rally lifted the Burins to the win in the season opener.
 
Trailing 3-2 in the sixth inning, Bailey Marvin hit a two-run home run to lift the Bruins into the lead for good. Brightyn Turner hit an RBI single in the second inning to get Salt Lake on the board, also picking up an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.
 
Turner was 1-of-3 with three RBI's. SLCC mustered just six hits in the win. Tiffany Hermansen earned the pitching win, throwing seven innings and posting 12 strikeouts.
 
Salt Lake 11, Southern Idaho 7: SLCC took an early lead and never looked back in an offensive shootout.
 
The Bruins took a 5-0 lead in the second inning, with Mikelle Anthony hitting an RBI double in the frame. Anthony then added a two-run home run in the fourth inning, with Lyndsey Madrigal adding a solo home run in the fifth inning.
 
SLCC had four players with multi-hit games, with Anthony going 2-of-5 with three RBI's. Taylor Hagen earned the pitching win, throwing 4.1 innings, with Tiffany Hermansen also pitched in relief.
