Bruins power past Southern Idaho in doubleheader

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 17, 2023) – The Salt Lake Community College Baseball team continued its winning streak Friday, earning a sweep in a Scenic West doubleheader.
 
SLCC posted wins over Southern Idaho, earning decisions of 4-2 and 11-6. The victories lifted the Bruins to a six-game winning streak, giving them a mark of 8-2 in Scenic West games and 10-8 overall.
 
Salt Lake and Southern Idaho will play another league doubleheader Saturday.
 
Salt Lake 4, Southern Idaho 2: A late rally helped the Bruins earn the victory.
 
Tied at 2-2 in the eighth inning, Jaxon Weatherly hit a solo home run to break the tie. Daniel Gonzalez hit a pair of RBI singles earlier in the game for Salt Lake.
 
Gonzalez, Weatherly and Chip Beck all went 2-of-4 in the game. Jordan Pace earned the pitching win in relief, throwing three innings. Daxton Purser posted seven strikeouts in five innings. 
 
Salt Lake 11, Southern Idaho 6: Early offense lifted the Bruins to a dynamic win.
 
Salt Lake scored six runs in the first inning, with Ethan Lamb hitting a three-run home run in the frame. Lamb added an RBI single in the fifth inning, along with Jarret Elmer hitting a three-run home run.
 
SLCC posted 11 hits in the win, with Gonzalez, Lamb, Weatherly and Jalen Seward all posting multi-hit outings. Traton Staheli threw five innings and had three strikeouts.
