TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 18, 2023) – A road series ended in a Saturday split for the Salt Lake Community College Baseball team.

SLCC posted a 3-2 loss in the first game of the doubleheader at Southern Idaho, then responded with a 6-5 win in the finale. The Bruins went 3-1 in the series, moving their overall record to 11-9 and 9-3 in Scenic West games.

Salt Lake will host USU Eastern in a series next weekend.

Southern Idaho 3, Salt Lake 2: An extra-innings classic ended in a heartbreaking defeat for the Bruins.

SLCC struck first in the game, scoring a pair of runs in the fourth inning as
Trey Gambill scored on a wild pitch.
Ethan Lamb then scored
Daniel Gonzalez on a sacrifice fly. CSI responded though with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. A stalemate between the two programs ended in the 10
th inning, with the Golden Eagles earning a walk-off win.

Dalton Smith had no-decision in the pitching start, throwing seven innings and posting four strikeouts.Â

Salt Lake 6, Southern Idaho 5: A late rally lifted the Bruins to a win in the series finale.

SLCC scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning, overcoming a 5-2 deficit in the win.
Jaxon Weatherly hit a two-run single in the inning, while
Preston Winget also posted an RBI single in the frame.Â

Ethan Lamb and
Trey McLawhorn propelled the Bruins on a fast start, with Lamb posting an RBI single in the second inning. McLawhorn added an RBI single in the third inning.

Winget went 2-of-4 in the win.
Dillon Kelly earned the pitching win in relief for the Bruins, while
Chip Beck pitched a shutout inning to earn the save.Â
