TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 11, 2023) – The home opener for the Salt Lake Community College Baseball team may have been delayed to Sunday due to weather, but the literally rainy conditions did nothing to spoil SLCC's fun.

SLCC rolled to a pair of wins over Colorado Northwestern, posting scores of 7-2 and 7-6 to sweep the doubleheader. The Bruins are now 6-8 overall and 4-1 in Scenic West games.

Salt Lake and Colorado Northwestern are scheduled to play another doubleheader on Monday at Cate Field in West Jordan.

Salt Lake 7, Colorado Northwestern 2: A strong start lifted the Bruins to a win to open the series.

SLCC posted four runs in the first inning, with a
Jalen Seward two-run single lifting the Bruins to an early advantage.
Daniel Gonzalez then hit an RBI single in the second inning to boost the lead to 5-0.Â

Gonzalez was 3-of-4 at the plate in the game, while Seward went 2-of-3 with a pair of RBI's.
Daxton Purser earned the pitching win, throwing 6.1 innings and finishing with six strikeouts.

Salt Lake 7, Colorado Northwestern 6: An extra-innings battle ended with the Bruins prevailing in eight innings.

Tied at 6-6 in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Bruins posted the game-winning run on a fielding error, with
Hunter Neumayer sliding home on an error. The fireworks started early as
Preston Winget hit a two-run double in the second inning to get SLCC on the board, followed up by
Daniel Gonzalez hitting a two-run double in the third inning. CNCC walked home two Salt Lake baserunners in the fifth inning to tie the game at 6-6.

Winget went 2-of-4 at the plate, finishing with a pair of RBI's. Gonzalez also was 2-of-5.
Jordan Pace earned the win in relief, throwing 5.2 innings and allowing no runs.Â
